On September 3rd, 2022, at approximately 12:11 pm, the police department was dispatched to the 1st block of West Simpson Street for a fire alarm coming from an apartment building. Officers were informed while responding the sprinklers were activated and there were smoke conditions coming from the apartment building. Upon arrival it was determined there was an active fire. Investigation into what caused the fire it was learned a resident of the building had intentionally set the fire. The individual was identified Lance Chilcote. Chilcote was interviewed and was transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Chilcote was admitted for further evaluation. On October 24th, 2022 it was learned Chilcote had been discharged from the hospital and he was located in the area by an officer. Chilcote was taken into custody on a criminal warrant for charges related to the fire. He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Mark Martin. Bail was set at $50,000, secure. A preliminary hearing will be held at a later date.
