Pedestrian Crash

MBG-2024-09-0596

On September 23rd, 2024 at approximately 7:00 am, the police department was dispatched to the intersection of East Main Street and North Walnut Street for a crash involving a pedestrian. Investigation determined a white Ford F150, operated by Joshua Miller, was driving eastbound in the 200 block of East Main Street. The traffic light for east and westbound traffic was green. The east and westbound pedestrian control lights, indicating that the pedestrians were allowed to cross and had the right-of-way, were also illuminated. Miller turned left to travel onto North Walnut Street. Westbound traffic on East Main Street was approaching, and Miller made the turn quickly to beat the approaching vehicles. The pedestrian, walking westbound on the north side of the intersection, was within the marked crosswalk. Miller failed to see the pedestrian and turned into them. The pedestrian was thrown approximately twenty feet from the crosswalk and sustained a head injury. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital for further treatment by EMS.

The police department was assisted on scene by Penn State EMS and the Mechanicsburg Fire Department.
