On May 17th, 2024 at approximately 7:57 am the police department was dispatched to the intersection of East Simpson Street and South Filbert Street for a crash which just occurred. Investigation determined Mekhael was traveling southbound on Filbert Street and stopped behind another vehicle for the red traffic signal. The vehicle in front of him made a legal right turn while the light was still red. After the vehicle in front completed their turning movement, Mekhael proceeded southbound, running the red light and striking White who was traveling eastbound on Simpson Street and had the right-of-way. Mekhael informed the investigating officer that he was using his cell phone and was distracted. One operator was taken to the hospital for treatment of an injury they sustained. Both vehicles were towed from the scene as a result of the damage they sustained.
The police department was assisted on scene by the Mechanicsburg Fire Department and Penn State EMS.
