On February 21st, 2022, at approximately 6:45 pm, the police department was contacted by a victim residing in the 1st block of Edgewood Drive. The victim advised they called a number thinking it was for Apple, to get assistance with their computer. Upon calling the number, they were advised in order for their account to be “fixed”, they needed to purchase gift cards and provide the numbers on the backs of the cards. The victim advised they purchased several gift cards for Apple and Google Play. The total amount of gift cards purchased was $3600. The victim began speaking with a “supervisor” and thought they might have fallen victim to a scam. The victim contacted the police department and they were advised it was a scam, and to not purchase anymore gift cards. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the police department.
