Awards Ceremony Held

Last evening, January 15th, the police department held an awards ceremony. The ceremony included a dinner donated by Mission BBQ. Officers were awarded their yearly service letters from the Chief. Officers were awarded bars to be displayed on their uniform for firearms proficiency and specialized assignments within the department. A few officers received a meritorious conduct award or a lifesaving award. Those officers were:

Officer Michelle Chittester – 2 lifesaving awards, one for dislodging food from an 11-month old child and one for a narcan save for an individual experiencing an opioid overdose

Sergeant Paulus and Officer Shutt – meritorious conduct award for an incident involving locating an individual in crisis – the person did not know where they were and the officers were able to use a ping from their cell phone to locate them and get them to treatment

Sergeant Dyer and Officer Chester – meritorious conduct award for an incident involving their attempting to take a wanted felon into custody – a physical fight took place between the officer, the male and a female who was on scene – they eventually were able to take both into custody and both officers suffered minor injuries during the incident

Sergeant Lazzarevich – meritorious conduct award for an investigation into a shooting which took place in the borough – the investigation involved lots of follow up interviews and search warrants – the gun men was eventually charged criminally – Sergeant Lazzarevich was unable to attend the event.

It is with great pride we announce this award ceremony and wanted to share the exceptional work our officers do on a daily basis. We at the Mechanicsburg Police Department salute these officers and our community as we continue to push towards another year of working with and protecting our community.
