On May 10th, 2021, at approximately 2:00 pm, the victim contacted the police department about a scam phone call the victim received. The victim reported they received a phone call from an individual claiming to be from Social Security. They were demanding the victim’s social security number and bank information. The victim provided the last four digits of their social security number. The victim hung up the phone after realizing it was a scam. The victim advised they received a voicemail from a similar phone number. The person who left a message stated they were going to issue a warrant for the victim’s arrest if the victim did not provide the requested information. The victim contacted their bank and called our department at the suggestion of their bank. The victim was advised the call was in fact a scam phone call. They were advised to not provide such information prior to verifying the call is legitimate.
