On December 31st, 2021, at approximately 11:12 am, the victim contacted the police department after receiving a phone call, yesterday, from an “IRS adviser.” The victim reported the person on the phone asked the victim to “verify” all of their identifying information, to include their date of birth and social security number. The individual ended the call with the victim once their information was “verified.” The victim resides in the 100 block of West Factory Street. The phone call took place on the 30th and the victim became suspicious about the call the next day. They attempted to call the phone number, which showed up on the victim’s caller id. There was no answer at the number which prompted the victim to call the police, realizing they had been scammed. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the police department.
