On September 11th, 2020 at approximately 4:14 pm, the victim contacted the police department to report a scam they fell victim to. The victim, residing in the 1st block of West Main Street, advised they had an item for sale on OfferUp. The item was listed at $350. The victim was contacted by a buyer who expressed interest in purchasing the item. The individual sent a check to the victim in the amount of $850. The victim contacted the buyer who asked the victim to cash the check and send the additional $500 to the buyer’s moving company. The victim was contacted by their bank and was advised the check was fraudulent. The victim is now out the entire $850. Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the police department.
