On August 20th, 2022, at approximately 9:18 am, the police department was contacted by a victim regarding a scam. The victim, who resides in the 100 block of East Allen Street, advised they thought they were communicating with a celebrity. The individual the victim was in contact with advised they needed assistance in the way of Bitcoin. The victim purchased $3,000 in Bitcoin for the individual. After getting the initial $3,000 investment, the individual requested $3,000 more in Bitcoin. The victim purchased the additional amount. The victim suffered a total loss of around $7,000, with fees added in. The victim was asked to provide more money, but has refused. The victim advised they were threatened if they did not send more financial assistance. The victim was advised to not send anymore money and cease all contact with the individual. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the police department.
