On September 1st, 2022, at approximately 5:46 pm, the police department was contacted by the victim advising of a scam. The victim, who resides in the 1000 block of Charles Street, reported they saw a friend’s post about winning money on Facebook. The victim clicked on the link from the post and they began to correspond with “Agent David Smith” about winning $300,000. The individual asked the victim to send $1,500 in Apple gift cards in order to claim the winnings. The victim purchased 3, $500 cards and provided the numbers from the cards. The victim was sent photographs of cash being boxed up and sent to the victim’s address. There is another picture sent which shows a FedEx truck surrounded by ATF agents. The victim was told the ATF agents were seizing the money. The victim realized they had been scammed after this correspondence and reported this to the police department. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the police department.
