On February 24th, 2023, at approximately 3:25 pm, the victim contacted the police department advising they fell victim to a check cashing scam. The victim, who resides in the 1st block of Kingswood Drive, was communicating with someone they thought was a friend of theirs on Snap Chat. The “friend” asked the victim to cash a check for them. The “friend” mailed them a $1000 check and asked for them to send $900 in a cash app after depositing the check. The “friend” told the victim they could keep $100 for themselves as payment for the hassle. The victim did this and was later contacted by their bank stating the check did not clear. The victim is now out the entire amount. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the police department.
