MBG-2020-10-0028

On October 1st, 2020, at approximately 8:55 pm, the police department received another complaint from a victim where their identity was used to apply for unemployment benefits. The victim did not apply for the benefits, but they received in the mail a packet of information about the benefits. There was also a debit card which had money on it. The card required activation to access the money on the card. It is unknown at this time how the victim’s personal identifying information was obtained to apply for the benefits. The police department is putting this information out for informational purposes. If you did not apply for the benefits, you cannot spend the money. Anyone that receives the mailings is asked to contact the police department. We will provide a form that will also be filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry as required in cases like these. Anyone with questions can contact the police department.
