On March 6th, 2023, at approximately 7:15 pm, the police department was dispatched to the intersection of Shepherdstown Road and East Elmwood Avenue for a hit and run crash which just occurred. The striking vehicle was to have driven away from the scene and a witness was following the vehicle. With the help of the witness, officers were able to locate the striking vehicle as it turned east onto East Simpson Street from Shepherdstown Road. Officers were following the vehicle with emergency lights and sirens activated. The driver of the striking vehicle did not stop and continued travelling east. In the area of Allendale Road and East Simpson Street, officers were able to get the vehicle to stop. This was after one of the police cars attempted to pull beside the fleeing vehicle in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle struck the police car and came to a stop. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Harle and he was found to be under the influence of alcohol. It was determined Harle was not safe to operate a motor vehicle and he was arrested. A preliminary hearing will be held at a later date.
