On June 9th, 2021, at approximately 10:14 am, the victim contacted the police department regarding a phone call they had just received. The victim advised the person on the phone identified themselves as a law enforcement officer. The caller advised the victim a vehicle had been rented in Texas using the victim’s name. The caller advised the rental vehicle had been found with drugs inside and a warrant had been issued for the victim’s arrest. The victim provided identifying information to the caller before realizing the phone call was a scam. This type of scam unfortunately is a common scam. Everyone is reminded to not provide identifying information over the phone without first verifying information being provided to them. Scammers often times use the fear of law enforcement and the threat of arrest in order to obtain information. Anyone with information relating to this incident is asked to contact the police department.
