On April 8th, 2021, at approximately 4:15 pm, the victim contacted the police department reporting they had received a phone call advising a rental vehicle was found in Colorado with drugs inside it. The caller advised the rental agreement came back to the victim with their social security number. The victim was asked to verify the last four digits of their social security number. This is a common scam. If the victim had stayed on the phone longer there would most likely have been a request for money. This money would have most likely been requested to be put on gift cards. Anyone receiving such a phone call, especially knowing they did not rent a vehicle, should consider it a scam and hung up.
