On September 21st, 2022, at approximately 12:22 pm, the victim contacted the police department about a scam. The victim resides in the 100 block of East Maplewood Avenue. The victim advised they received an email from someone they thought they knew. The individual was asking for help to purchase birthday gifts for the individual’s children. The victim offered to help them and was asked to purchase $250 in Apple gift cards. The victim made the purchase and provided the gift card numbers to the individual. After the victim told their own child about what occurred, they realized it was a scam. The email address did not correspond with the actual email address of the person they know. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the police department.
