On June 13th, 2023, at approximately 6:48 pm, the victim contacted the police department about a scam they fell victim to. The victim, who resides in the 200 block of East Locust Street, advised they received a phone call from someone stating they were from Amazon. The person on the phone stated the victim had an order issue and “transferred” the victim to an employee with the Federal Trade Commission. This person advised the victim their “account was compromised.” The victim was asked how much money they had in their bank accounts. The victim was also asked to provide their identifying information. The victim was texted a purported photo identification card from the caller which was later determined to be fraudulent. The victim was directed to purchase (2) $500 gift cards to help with taking care of the issues with the victim’s account. The victim did so and provided the the information on the gift cards. The victim realized after being asked to purchase more gift cards this was a scam. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the police department.
