On September 8th, 2020 at approximately 7:26 pm, the victim contacted the police department to report they were scammed out of money for the purchase of tickets over the internet. The victim advised they used the “Zelle” app for the purchase of the tickets. After sending the specified amount they were sent a message back asking for more money. The victim’s bank advised this app is often used to scam people out of money. The individual’s name used for the transactions was contacted and it was learned their Facebook account was hacked. People are now using that victim’s account for the scams. This victim has contacted Facebook about their account being hacked and taken over, but Facebook will not deactivate the account. The victim who initially called our department is out the money initially sent for the tickets.
