On April 20th, 2023, at approximately 7:15 pm, the police department was dispatched to the intersection of South Chestnut and East Simpson Streets for a crash which just occurred. Upon arrival officers determined there were two vehicles involved. Investigation into the crash found Cawley pulled from the stop sign on South Chestnut Street to enter into the parking lot of the church. Upon pulling into the intersection her vehicle was struck by an eastbound vehicle on East Simpson Street. Traffic was backed up for the westbound lane of East Simpson Street at the time. The eastbound vehicle was operated by Murray. Murray was transported to the hospital by EMS for further evaluation of injuries suffered from the crash. Both vehicles required towing from the scene due to the damage they sustained in the crash. The police department was assisted on scene by Silver Spring EMS.
