On August 23rd, 2021, at approximately 9:02 am, the victim contacted the police department about a fraudulent craigslist ad. The victim resides in the 400 block of South York Street. The victim advised they found an ad listing a house for rent located on Edgewood Lane in Mechanicsburg. The victim started communication with the person listed in the ad. The person advised the victim they were leaving for a missions trip and they did not want to leave their home empty. The victim was asked to fill out an application which they did. The victim provided their name, date of birth and social security as part of the application. The individual told the victim to send $1020 for the first month’s rent and they would mail the victim a key to the house. The victim realized this was a scam and reported this to police prior to sending any money. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the police department.
