Two officers from the Mechanicsburg Police Department will be participating in the Special Olympics Torch Run on September 15th, 2023. Sergeant Timothy Lazzarevich and Officer Evan Shipley have signed up and are hoping to gain assistance from the community in their fund raising efforts. The 2023 Capital Area Torch Run will begin with opening ceremonies on September 15th at 8:30 AM at the Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Police and conclude at the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in Hershey. The run will be led by teams of Law Enforcement from across the region and central PA accompanied by Special Olympics Capital Area athletes. This run also serves as a run in memory of fallen officers across the state.
The Capital Area Region provides a year-round training and competitive sports program for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and/or closely related developmental disabilities. The program provides training and competitions in 24 sports and leadership programs throughout the region all completely FREE TO ATHLETES.
