Remnants of Hurricane Ida

Remnants of Hurricane Ida are due to hit our area in the early morning hours Wednesday, September 1st. The National Weather Service is forecasting the rain to last into the evening Wednesday, with a flood watch currently into Thursday morning, September 2nd. Rain forecasted for the entire event is anywhere from 2″ to as much as 6-7″ locally.

With this in mind the police department would like to caution residents about driving in these conditions. If you can stay home, please do so. Roadways will be prone to flooding due to the large amount of rain expected. Please do NOT drive into areas where a large amount of water has gathered. It is common for vehicles to drive into these areas and only realize after it is too late they should not have done so. If you see other vehicles driving into the water, do NOT follow them, just because. When in doubt, turn around and find a different route. Even if it means longer drive times. Vehicles which become stuck in high water and stop running after driving through high water, become serious safety issues for other drivers and responding emergency personnel. Please keep everyone’s safety in mind prior to travelling during this storm.
